BanRep raises its rate by 25 basis points. Four directors backed the increase, two favored a hold and one sought 50 points.

The fact
Banco de la República’s board announced a 25-basis-point increase to 12.25% on September 30. Four members backed the increase, two favored no change and one sought 50 points. The official statement was published at 1:50 p.m. Colombia time.
The day’s other data point
DANE also reported national unemployment of 9.4% in August, versus 8.6% in August 2025. This is a year-over-year comparison of the original series. The same-day publications do not show that today’s rate decision explains the earlier employment figure.
The ALTA EDICIÓN view
For businesses, the refinancing calendar deserves attention. A company with floating-rate debt has a different exposure from one that locked in long-term costs. Check maturities, rate benchmarks and the operating margin available to absorb higher funding costs.
The next signal
Minutes scheduled for October 5 should clarify the board’s reasoning. Then compare inflation, lending and employment; sustained price moderation would change the risk assessment. The impact on each company will depend on its debt and refinancing schedule.
