ALTA EDICIÓN / ANALYSIS · ENGLISH BRIEF
Mercado Libre: growth does not settle the margin question.
Commerce and financial services need different capital and risk lenses.

Second-quarter facts
Mercado Libre reported net revenue and financial income of US$10.169 billion, up 50% year on year, and operating income of US$683 million, down 17%, for an operating margin of 6.7%. These results were published August 5, 2026.
The reading
The company describes its expansion as an investment in long-term value. Later results must test that explanation. Commerce requires examination of logistics and monetisation; financial services add funding and credit risk. Customer funds, loans and adjusted free cash flow cannot be read like the cash flow of a pure retailer.
The next signal
Quarterly results and portfolio quality should show whether growth produces stronger transaction economics. Continued margin pressure alongside worsening credit losses or funding needs would challenge the more favourable interpretation.
